After the US deployment of warships to the Korean Peninsula, CGTN talked to Jim Walsh, an international security expert at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on the tensions in the region.
Walsh said that by sending the carrier group to the Korean Peninsula, the US is attempting to discourage the DPRK from conducting a nuclear test. However, he warned that the outcome might be limited.

"I think it's unlikely to be successful, every year South Korea organizes such massive military exercises, that the DPRK worries it is a pre-cursor to invasion. Simply, sending out a carrier group I don’t think it will do much on the DPRK decision making,” said Walsh.
