Prosecutors in South Korea will question ousted President Park Geun-hye in jail on Tuesday as the special investigation team continues its probe into her corruption case, Yonhap news agency has reported.
Park is suspected of colluding with her longtime friend and confidante Choi Soon-sil to coerce the country’s big conglomerates, including tech behemoth Samsung, into paying sums of money to two foundations that support Park’s policies in return for favor. She has also been blamed for allowing Choi undue influence over government affairs.
The questioning is expected to be held on April 4 over allegations of bribery, abuse of power, coercion and leaking of government, South Korean prosecutors announced on Sunday.
Seoul Central District Court approved a warrant to arrest Park earlier this week. Prosecutors can detain Park for up to 20 days before formally charging her.
The same court will start a formal hearing on Samsung Group Chief Lee Jae-yong over suspicions of bribery on April 7.
Cases related to the influence-peddling scandal, in which Park was embroiled, are expected to be heard during April.
