We begin with the meeting of Chinese President Xi Jinping and visiting Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Beijing. During their talks, President Xi said the two countries should further synergize their development strategies and strengthen their people-to-people exchanges. He said the Belt and Road Initiative was a key platform for bilateral cooperation. He hopes the two countries can make a success on the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative and could encourage other nations to build new international trading routes.

Meanwhile, Lee said Singapore adhered to the "One China" policy, and was against any moves towards Taiwan independence. He said Singapore supported China's Belt and Road Initiative as well as the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, adding that he was willing to promote deeper relations between China and countries from South-east Asia.
