Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected comments by Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, who accused Israel of having a hand in recent protests. In a video posted on his official Facebook account, Netanyahu said the accusations of Israeli involvement are baseless.
BENJAMIN NETANYAHU ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER "I heard today Iran's President Rouhani's claim that Israel is behind the protests in Iran. It is not only false, it is laughable and unlike Rouhani I will not insult the Iranian people, they deserve better."
As he denied the accusations, Netanyahu expressed support for anti-government protesters in Iran. On Sunday, Rouhani accused the US and its two allies in the region, Israel and Saudi Arabia, of fueling unrest in Iran. Since Thursday, tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets across the country, alarming the government and posing the boldest challenge to Iran's clerical leadership since 2009. Some of the protests have turned violent. State TV has reported that at least 13 people have been killed in the rallies.
