More football news from China, this coming from the domestic league -- where things seem to be going off the rails at Shanghai Shenhua. Head coach, Gus Poyet recently quit, and in their first game without him, were blitzed 6-1 by city rivals SIPG. The team has now lost five straight games -- and fans are pointing the finger at Carlos Tevez. The striker is among the highest paid players in the world -- getting a reported 850-thousand dollars a week. But one player is sticking up for his teammate, Cao Yunding says the team is at fault for their performance, not a single player, and they tarnished the Shenhua jersey with their recent loss.
The veteran spoke Monday -- saying -- "After the game, there's a moment when my head is completely blank. I had an urge to take off my jersey, like the Shenhua fans in the stands. When the team bus left the stadium, fans are still cheering Shenhua! I was so ashamed."
And discussing his well-paid, and apparently well-fed teammate Tevez -- he says not all the blame should be put on the Argentinian. He says "depending on a single player, can only lead to temporary success. And that players should shoulder the responsibility of losing."
The match against SIPG got out of hand in the second half, as the red Eagles scored scored 5 goals in just 8 minutes, as they whalloped Shenhua 6-1. That is the largest margin of victory in the Shanghai derby in five years.
