President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith arrived in Beijing to participate in the Belt and Road Forum. During an interview with Chinese media in the country's capital on Thursday, he said the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative has been bringing tangible benefits to participants, including Laos.
"Mutual benefit and win-win cooperation are the reality of today's world,” said the president. “The Belt and Road Initiative was proposed by China at a right time, and helps strengthen cooperation through facility connection, financial connection and people-to-people connection. The initiative helps create opportunities and improve the socio-economy in Laos and other developing countries."
Cooperation between China and neighboring Laos has seen fruitful achievements under the Belt and Road Initiative. Construction of a railway linking the two countries started in December last year. In November 2015, China launched a communication satellite developed for Laos from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
The Belt and Road Initiative also facilitates the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation mechanism between China and relevant countries, including Laos. As the Laos economy grows, the cooperation areas with China will continue to expand.
