Shanghai Shenhua player Qin Sheng is paying the price after putting his worst foot forward in a Chinese Super League game on Saturday night. Qin stomped on the foot of Tianjin Quanjian's Axel Witsel in the penalty area, earning a straight red card from the referee.
Shanghai Shenhua later announced its punishments for the player on Weibo, stating that Qin has been asked to apologize to all of his teammates for the incident. 30-year-old Qin has now been sent down to the Shanghai club’s reserve squad, will have to pay a fine of 300,000 yuan, and is likely to face further sanctions from the Chinese Football Association (CFA). Shenhua said it will take steps to prevent such an incident from occurring again.

This is the highest fine ever issued in CSL history.
The 300,000 yuan figure eclipses the fine given to Shandong Luneng's former coach Cuca, after he hit an assistant referee during a match against Guizhou Renhe on June 19, 2015. He was made to pay 140,000 yuan, and was banned from the dugout for seven months from all CFA competitions.
The CFA handed out a total of 2,540,000 yuan in fines last season, the highest amount ever recorded.
