Feeling fruity? The tropical tastes of Hainan Island. Hainan is a paradise of tropical fruits, some of which you may never have seen or tasted before. To mark the Boao Forum for Asia, which takes place on March 23-26 in the island province, we selected six tropical fruits from Hainan you simply must try!

The sweetsop is heart-shaped with yellowish aromatic flesh. It has two harvests, one from February to March and the other from September to November. The fruit turns to a greenish-yellow when ripe. /VCG Photo

The Betelnut is almost a light drug for local people. It is usually chewed with betel leaf, salt and pepper. It is sometimes used for detoxification and reducing inflammation. /VCG Photo

Guava is another popular tropical fruit on Hainan Island, rich in fiber, protein, calcium and phosphorus, as well as vitamins A, B, and C. Most local people serve it with salt and pepper. /VCG Photo

Melon-shaped and bulky, the jackfruit is one of the largest tree-borne fruits on Hainan Island. The fruits grow from both the trunk and branches of the tree. They have a rough spiny skin and the uncut ripe fruit has a strong unpleasant smell that resembles rotting onions - but once cut, the fruit gives off an aroma similar to papaya or pineapple. /VCG Photo
