Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is taking questions from journalists at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, after the closing of the Fifth Session of the 12th National People's Congress.
Responding to a question on the mainland’s Hong Kong policy and elaborating on his remarks in the government work report that “Hong Kong independence will lead nowhere,” Li said Beijing will increase its support to Hong Kong and that the ‘one country, two systems’ principle will not change.
The central government will continue to enhance support to Hong Kong’s economic growth and development and strengthen cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong, the premier promised.
He added that there will be more financial cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong, after the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect was launched last year.
Specifically, the central government plans to launch a bond market connect, allowing foreign investors to buy mainland securities for the first time. It will also help maintain Hong Kong's prosperity and its status of an international finance center, according to Li.
He is also talking about other issues of public concern. Follow CGTN for more.
