Moving on to France now. French police have raided the headquarters of dairy group Lactalis and its main milk powder factory in northern France. That's as part of a criminal investigation into the source of a Salmonella contamination that sparked a product recall in 83 countries. CGTN's Elena Casas reports from Paris.
ELENA CASAS PARIS SCRIPT The police are trying to find out what Lactalis knew about the milk contamination and when - its main factory has been closed since the Salmonella outbreak first became public in early December, but all products manufactured there since February have now been recalled, sparking claims the dairy giant had covered it up for almost a year.
Health authorities say 37 children in France and one in Spain have fallen ill with Salmonella after drinking contaminated products - the company disputes that number. A number of parents have filed lawsuits against the firm. The agriculture minister has announced that food companies will now have to report the results of their internal tests to the state - and new government checks will be imposed on the whole production chain of baby milk products. It's possible France's major supermarket chains could also face criminal charges in the case - after they had to admit they were selling products that should have been recalled as recently as last week.
The scandal has been a blow to the reputation of France's already beleaguered dairy industry, which is increasingly reliant on exports of milk powder abroad. Elena Casas, CGTN, Paris.
