In South Korea, huge crowds have flocked to a Winter Festival in Hwacheon County, about 120 kilometers north-east of the capital, Seoul.
More than 10-thousand ice holes have been dug out for fishing. The festival also offers sport and other cultural actitivties. The world's largest ice-carving exhibit has been set up in the local town, depicting South Korean landmarks. And of course, no winter festival would be quite complete without Santy Claus.
