Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the country has foiled its foreign enemies' attempts to turn legitimate protests into an insurgency. He also said that Tehran will respond to the threats of its foreign enemies, especially to the US government.
AYATOLLAH ALI KHAMENEI IRAN'S SUPREME LEADER "These days in America, there is talk of mental problems and psychiatrists for President Donald Trump. We have heard about those things. But he and other members of the US government must know that his show of madness will not remain unresponded to."
Khamenei said US President Donald Trump was grandstanding when he tweeted support for Iranian protesters and called on Iranians to unite together. The supreme leader has called the protests "playing with fireworks", though he admitted that citizens had a right to air legitimate concerns. Massive violent unrest erupted in over 80 Iranian cities last month, leaving at least 22 people dead.
