All 12 people onboard were killed when a Turkish police helicopter crashed in the eastern province of Tunceli on Tuesday, reported Reuters citing the local governor's office.
According to the Tunceli governor’s office’s statement, the helicopter, carrying one judge, seven police officers, one sergeant and three crew members crashed at around 8:40 a.m. local time.
The signals from the Sikorsky helicopter disappeared about 10 minutes after it took off. The statement said it is possible to have crashed due to poor weather conditions.
Teams of the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) were dispatched to the area between Ovacik and Pulumur of Tunceli for searching efforts.
Heavy fog in the region made the rescue operation difficult, Turkish media reports said.
