On to the world's biggest annual migration. Saturday marked the third day of China's Spring Festival travel rush, with 8.8 million passengers making rail journeys nationwide.
Over 5,600 electrical multiple unit trains will be in operation every day during the period, accounting for 65 percent of total trains in operation. The southern island province of Hainan has seen a spike in passenger flow. The airport in the capital Haikou, as well as airports in Sanya and Bo'ao, are expected to handle 6.2 million trips during the holiday period. 3-point-3 million journeys are expected to be made at Haikou Meilan International Airport in the 40-day travel period. Local authorities say they are prepared to ease the pressure.
