2015 Paris Attacks: Look back at how events unfolded
[]
It's been more than two years since a series of coordinated assaults claimed by the Islamic State hit France -- the worst such attacks in the country's modern history. Let's take a quick look back at how it unfolded.
It was a calm Friday night that in a matter of minutes, plunged into a bloody chaos. On November 13th, 2015, gunmen wearing vests rigged with explosives targeted multiple venues including Stade de France where a soccer game was being held. Attackers also opened fire in bars and restaurants in an area known for its busy nightlife. The highest number of casualties was recorded at the Bataclan music hall, where a rock concert was underway. 130 people were killed and hundreds more were injured. Five days after the attacks, police raided an apartment in a northern Paris suburb, targeting the suspected mastermind. Abdelhamid Abaaoud, an ISIL commander from Belgium, was among those killed in the raid. Investigations into the attacks have focused heavily on Brussels. Several suspects had links to the Belgian capital, including Salah Abdeslam, who was arrested four months after the attacks.
