Every mid-year, thousands of tourists from all over the world flock to Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve to witness the spectacular Great Migration.

Listed as one of the New Wonders of the World, the Great Migration sees over 1.5 million wildebeests, 200,000 zebras and a sizable number of antelopes and gazelles travelling across Kenya and Tanzania in search of fresh pasture.

Every year during the migration, around 250,000 wildebeests and 30,000 zebras are killed as a result of predation by carnivores, but also from thirst, hunger, and exhaustion.

Tourists flocking the Maasai Mara for this adventitious experience not only to get enjoy from the wildlife. The magic of Mara is more than just watching wildlife. In the heart of the beautiful wilderness, there are some of the finest hotels in Africa. Rooms there can go for up to $1,000 a night, but that buys an experience any tourist will never forget.

Some offer a great opportunity for visitors to watch the wildebeest crossing, right from within their rooms’ king-size beds.

Even after the migration, there is still a lot to see in the Mara. Once the wildebeests finish their trek, the grass is often low, and this is the best time to watch the wild cats.
