The transition of the US presidency has added a lot of uncertainty to China-US relations, one of the most important bilateral ties in the world. Does the US have a clear strategy towards China? And what about China?
To find out more, in our special interview series, In My Opinion, our senior correspondent Tian Wei spoke to Ms. Zhao Mei, managing editor of The Chinese Journal of American Studies. She is also a CPPCC member and research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Former US Ambassador to China Max Baucus recently had an op-ed published in The Washington Post on this subject. Zhao agreed with Baucus that neither President Obama nor President Trump had a long-term vision on China.
On the other hand, she said China did have such a strategy towards the US, and that it was as simple as cooperation and coordination. The editor emphasized that national sovereignty and territorial integrity are China's core interests.
President Trump has spoken of the possibility of negotiating with China, but subjects including Tibet and Taiwan are non-negotiable for China.
