Nepal’s ancient Bisket Jatra festival kicks off: Thousands of devotees throng the streets of Bhaktapur, close to the capital Kathmandu, to observe the chariot procession carrying the god Bhairava on the first day of the nine-day-long festival. The religious festival, which heralds the Nepali New Year, marks the year 2074 in the Bikram calendar. It will go with much fanfare, including rituals and dancing – as well as symbolic offerings to god-like figures. /CFP Photo
