The European Commission said on Wednesday that Brexit negotiations will not start until after the recently called for British snap general election on June 8. The commission also stated that when Britain leaves the bloc, EU agencies currently based in the nation will have to be resettled within the EU.
Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker had a phone call with British Prime Minister Theresa May following May's call for the early election.
According to commission spokesperson Margaritis Schinas, the "real" Brexit talks will take place after the election. Schinas said these talks will not include the future location of London-based European Banking Authority and the European Medicines Agency, which together employ around 1,000 people in the UK capital.
The remark came in reaction to a statement by the UK's Brexit authorities on Monday, saying the location of the agencies had not been decided yet and would be "subject to the exit negotiations".
