Volvo Ocean Race: Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag increase lead
[]
We head into the water now for action from the fourth leg of the Volvo Ocean race. Leading the way in this section, which began in Melbourne on January second, finishing in Hong Kong, is Team Sun Hung KaiScallywag who are going in search of their first win of this year's edition after a disappointing sixth place finish in the previous leg left them fourth in the overall standings.
Profiting from favourable trade winds at the front of the fleet, Scallywag tightened their grip in front after taking the lead Sunday. In the 24 hours before the position report, Scallywag recorded an impressive 504.7 nautical miles gained, 25 more than second-placed Vestas 11th Hour and 77 more than team AkzoNobel in third. Vestas are nearly 76 miles behind with AkzoNobel trailing by just under 89. Their estimated arrival day in Hong Kong is on course to be this Friday but the Scallywag crew know anything can happen between now and then.
