DANIAL KHAN ISLAMABAD "The tragic case of rape and murder of seven-year old Zainab Ansari is still making headlines across Pakistan. Eight days have gone by since her body was discovered from a dumping ground.
This was followed by protests in many parts of the country. Angry mobs were witnessed burning properties and vehicles, demanding for her killer to be identified and brought to justice. According to the police, Zainab, the latest victim of a serial killer, who had previously assaulted nine girls, ages five to 10 years-old, seven of them were killed.
Local media has been airing CCTV video footage of the suspected killer. There is widespread anger and pain over the murder, which remains unsolved. Losing all hope in getting justice from the police or the government, Zainab's father has appealed to Pakistan's chief justice and the army chief. Several political parties and pressure groups are also playing their role in building pressure against the government, which many believe is exploitation of Zainab's case for their own political gain.
