China Cold Front: Liaodong Bay covered by sea ice, hindering cargo from leaving port
[]
A cold front continues to sweep across parts of China. In northeastern Liaoning Province,  the boundary of sea ice around Liaodong Bay expanded to 63 sea miles Saturday, exceeding the alert value of 60. Meanwhile, more than half the water there is now covered by an ice sheet -- hindering cargo from leaving the port. Local weather authorities predict that in the coming week, ice blockages in the region will worsen. The port in Liaodong Bay is a transportation hub in northern China where grain and coal are transported to the south. Icebreaking efforts are underway.
