Progress has been made in the case of missing Chinese student Zhang Yingying, the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago said on Sunday without giving any more details, China National Radio (CNR) reported on Sunday.
The 26-year-old student disappeared on June 9, a month after arriving in the US to pursue studies at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois.
The FBI, which announced earlier this week that they are treating Zhang’s disappearance as kidnapping, is offering a reward up to 10,000 US dollars for information leading to her location.

The Police Department at the University of Illinois said it is now cooperating with the Illinois State Police and the FBI in the investigation, but noted that information from the public remains an important part in piecing the puzzle together.
Zhang's family arrived in Champaign, some 200 km south of Chicago, early Saturday and met with law enforcement officials and the university’s representative. They were accompanied by staff from the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago, including Vice Consul-General Yu Peng.
The university's community has set up a campaign on GoFundMe to cover the living expenses of Zhang's family members during their stay on campus. The campaign has raised over 30,000 US dollars in 18 hours.
