When US President Donald Trump visited Beijing earlier this month, his six-year-old granddaughter Arabella Kushner became a hit on social media. During a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump played a video of his granddaughter singing and reciting poems in Mandarin. Now she has become something of a child star in China. CGTN's Wei Xuejiao interviewed one of Arabella's Mandarin-language teachers.

Arabella's Mandarin-language teacher, was excited to see the reaction of President Xi and China's First Lady Peng Liyuan.
ZHAO DANCHEN, ARABELLA KUSHNER'S MANDARIN TEACHER CAROUSEL OF LANGUAGES SCHOOL "I was very proud for her, and all of us are proud. We know deeply in our heart that she is one of our students and whatever she did was beautiful in front of President Xi. And I am really happy and I know for sure she can do that. It was not surprising to me but I am so happy."
Zhao Danchen received her degree in applied linguistics at Columbia University. She began working at Carousel of Languages School in New York. Starting last year, she tutored Arabella for about eight months. Their lessons included songs, conversations and story-telling. In addition, Arabella's two brothers were also taking Mandarin lessons at the school.
ZHAO DANCHEN, ARABELLA KUSHNER'S MANDARIN TEACHER CAROUSEL OF LANGUAGES SCHOOL "I love the fact that they are learning at an early age. That's also one of my dreams because Chinese fight so much to learn English for so many years. It's great to see I am able to spread it out, not only language but also the culture and everything about China. To put a little seed in their heart and to make it grow eventually. I hope more kids realize not to learn the language but also try to understand another culture."
There are more than 400 students learning foreign languages here. A quarter of them are learning Mandarin.
PATRIZIA SARACENI CORMAN, CEO CAROUSEL OF LANGUAGES SCHOOL "I would say Mandarin is becoming more and more popular, because clearly there's an enormous trend right now with the Chinese market, and also it's a huge investment in education. So the foreign language study is really about the investment in their child's education."
Chinese officials say Arabella has become a little ambassador of China-US friendship, receiving an outpouring of affection from a number of people.
