Havana on Friday denounced Washington’s new policy towards Cuba, but reiterated its willingness to engage in dialogue and consultation, according to a statement published in the Granma, the publication of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party.

"Any strategy aimed at changing the political, economic and social system in Cuba, whether it aims to achieve it through pressure or imposition, or by using more subtle methods, is doomed to fail," the statement read.

Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump announced from Miami, Florida, that he was rolling back parts of the policy his predecessor Barack Obama had adopted towards the Caribbean island nation, in what experts have said could turn the clock back between the two countries after commercial relations thawed and diplomatic ties restored under the Obama administration in 2014.

Trump ordered tighter restrictions on Americans’ travelling to Cuba and US business dealing with the commercial arm of the Cuban military.

The Cuban government considered the new restrictions a "setback" in US-Cuban relations, which it said will not succeed in their goal to weaken the revolution.
