Syria Crisis: Turkish forces fire artillery into area held by Kurdish fighters

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened to interfere if US-backed Kurdish Peoples' Protection Units or YPG militants do not withdraw from Syria's Afrin in a week. Our correspondent Michal Bardavid has the details.
MICHAL BARDAVID ISTANBUL "On Saturday Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency reported that the Turkish armed forces had shelled several PKK and YPG positions in Afrin Syria over 30 times. The artillery was shot from within Turkish borders. The PKK and YPG are both Kurdish groups, but while the PKK is considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU, the same is not true for the YPG. Turkey perceives the YPG as a terrorist organization because of their affiliation with the PKK, however, the United States sees the YPG as an ally in their fight against ISIL. During his speech on Saturday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan addressed the issue."
RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN TURKISH PRESIDENT "If the terrorists in Afrin don't surrender we will tear them down. In Manbij, if they break the promises, we will take the matter in our own hands. We will continue our fight, until there are no terrorists left on the Iraqi border."
MICHAL BARDAVID ISTANBUL "Turkish forces had entered Syria's Idlib Province which borders Afrin as part of the de-escalation agreement with Russia and Iran. Erdogan says he will not allow a terror corridor to be formed in Syria, and this operation aims to prevent that. Michal Bardavid, CGTN, Istanbul."
