A new TV channel dedicated to women is set to begin broadcasting in Afghanistan this weekend. Zan TV is the first of its kind in the country, and aims to boost women's influence in Afghanistan's male-dominated media industry.

Zan TV runs on small budget with low-cost technology and operates from a basic studio in Kabul. With a team of all female presenters and producers, the channel will broadcast a host of programs, ranging from news to religion to entertainment, from 6 a.m. until midnight every day.

Staff there say they've had to cope with family members who disapprove of their careers in media, and hope to encourage female viewers to follow their professional dreams.
