22 killed in India bus crash, fire

At least 22 people were burned to death and 19 others injured when a bus caught on fire after colliding with a truck in Bareilly, northern India in the early hours of Monday, according to local police.
"Most of the passengers on the bus were fast asleep at the time of the accident, as a result of which only a few people managed to escape. While 22 passengers died on the spot, those injured have been admitted to the district hospital, where some are said to be in a serious condition," a police official said.
The accident occurred around 1 a.m. local time when the state-run bus, carrying 38 passengers, two drivers and a conductor, collided head-on with  the truck on National Highway 24 in Bareilly district.
The bus driver was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road, local media reported. A probe has been ordered into the accident.
