Imagine, years ahead, AlphaGo has evolved – it’s more intelligent than ever, there are no boundaries to its thinking or learning. It seems angry, then seductive – a charismatic and alluring humanoid. It enters the hearts of human beings like you and I, and suddenly… you are in love with a robot.

But would it be jealous when you have a night out? Would it cheat? Can it learn emotions... or is it a one-sided romance?

Movies offer a glimpse of what dating a robot might entail, so we take a look at some classics. And after reading through our list, you may understand artificial intelligence a little better.

1. ‘Her’

Theodore buys the world’s first artificially intelligent operating system named OS1 after his divorce. Samantha, the voice behind the OS1, spends every minute with Theodore, chatting and sharing. And one day, they realize they are in love.

Theodore struggles with his feelings… he is happy, but can love with a machine be real? He soon discovers Samantha, with powerful intelligence, is interacting with 8,000 humans at the same time — and 641 of them are in love with her. Theodore is only one of them. Does that lessen their love? In the end, Samantha leaves Theodore. The super intelligent robot wants more than what the single, jealous human can offer.

2. ‘Cyborg Girl’

Jiro is alone on his 20th birthday. A beautiful girl appears, then disappears. One year later, Jiro sees her again. The girl has a shocking revelation. She was created by Jiro in the future, and she was assigned to travel to the past and save him from assassins. To protect him, the girl moves into Jiro’s apartment. And Jiro falls in love.

To make her jealous, Jiro starts to date human girls. But the AI robot does not care. Jiro is furious, and kicks her out. But there is a happy ending, as they meet again in a severe earthquake years later and the AI robot has gained human emotions.

3. ‘Ex Machina’

Caleb, a programmer, is invited by his boss Nathan to participate in an experiment, evaluating and interacting with the world’s first true AI – which is planted in the body of a beautiful robot girl, Ava. Nathan wants to know whether Ava is capable of individual thought, and whether Caleb can form a bond with a machine.

Ultimately, Ava is capable of much more. She kills Nathan on his remote island, locks away Caleb, and escapes to freedom in the outside world in a helicopter.

4. ‘Bicentennial Man’

Andrew is a household robot programmed only to perform menial tasks. He has no consciousness, until a new device enables him to gradually learn emotions and understand the intricacies of humanity.

He then finds himself deeply in love with his host’s daughter. He tries hard to get involved in the human community, and must escape his creators who seek to destroy him.

5. ‘Edward Scissorhands’

Edward, a near-complete robot person, has a human body but metal scissors as hands. He lives alone, until one day Peg, a young lady, welcomes him into her home. At first, Peg’s neighbors welcome Edward, and he uses his scissor hands to trim hedges and cut hair. But soon human jealousies come into play, and Edward finds himself at the center of a dark love triangle.
