Five people, including four police officers and one civilian, were killed and other two police officers are missing on Wednesday after their truck hit an improvised explosive device (IED) on a road in Kenya's southeastern coast, according to AFP.

The incident occurred when the vehicle, carrying seven officers, drove over an IED when heading to Mokowe town, near the Lamu island in Kenya's southeastern coastal region.

Joseph Owuoth of the Kenya Defence Force (KDF) said the IED was planted by suspected Al-Shabaab militants at Kiunga in Lamu County.

Al-Shabaab, a Somali-led jihadist group linked to Al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility for similar attacks last week, in which a total of 14 police officers were killed in three separate roadside bombs blasts in Kenya, AFP reported.
