The "unified" flag was designed to represent a united Korea. It has a white background with a blue silhouette of the Korean peninsula, including several islands.
The flag was first used in 1991 at the World Table Tennis Championships in Chiba, Japan. Teams from the north and south also marched together behind the unified flag at the Summer Olympics in 2000 and 2004, the 2006 Winter Olympics and the 2006 Asian Games. They competed separately in the sporting events.
