Following the announcement, Vladimir Putin praised the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision to overturn the doping bans of 28 Russian athletes, but the Russian President did not gloat about the judgement, and says his country can still do plenty to improve their anti-doping program.
VLADIMIR PUTIN RUSSIAN PRESIDENT "We have to respect not only the court decision - which of course provides us joy, as it supports our position that the majority of our athletes are absolutely clean, and that they are not involved in doping. But we also have to respect the other side of a debate. I think we have to avoid euphoria on our side. We have to take it calmly, with respect to the organizations which made the respective decisions before. We are happy for the athletes being supported by CAS, but not everyone was fully cleared of charges. We have things to improve on our side for sure - in terms of improvement of our anti-doping program and policy. We will strive for this together with WADA and the IOC."
