‍The 27th China International Bicycle Fair has kicked off in Shanghai.
Set to last for four days, the event gathers state-of-the-art manufacturers and producers from the bicycle technology industry, welcoming 1,226 companies from 20 countries.
The majority of exhibitors are Chinese companies, as China ‍makes up 60 percent of the world’s bicycle industry.

In the last couple of years, electric bikes have gained popularity.
This year’s event has invited dozens of e-bike manufacturers, including Dutch brand Kate Wood, famous for its application of bamboo to bikes, watches and sunglasses, and former racing car design company ETT, who was invited by Universal Pictures to design and make bikes to be used in the movie series known as 'The Fast and the Furious'.
Other products have also made their debuts at the event, with the latest technology on display.

In 2016, over 70 percent of the 80 million bicycles China produced were exported, bringing in 3 billion US dollars in sales, together with another 1.8 billion in export sales on parts and supporting equipment.
However, statistics indicate that over 80 percent of exported bicycles were “economical” bikes under 100 US dollars per unit with limited added value and patent design.
