Ties between China and the Philippines are back on the right path, which will benefit the peoples of both countries, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at Wednesday’s press conference.
Wang Yi said Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s proper handling of the bilateral ties after taking office has benefited countries in the region. He added that the two countries have agreed to build a bilateral consultation mechanism on the South China Sea issue.
“The Philippines has extended a hand of friendship, and China will embrace that friendship with cooperative arms,” said Wang Yi. The foreign minister added that less than six months after President Duterte’s visit to China, China has already imported over 200,000 tons of tropical fruit from the Philippines. The two sides have also agreed to launch a number of projects including constructing bridges, railways and dams.
The friendly relationship between the two countries will also boost the China-ASEAN relationship, said Wang Yi.
The foreign minister made the remarks at a press conference on the sidelines of the current Two Sessions in Beijing.
