Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. During their talks, President Xi hailed the strengthened bilateral strategic cooperation, adding that China hopes to cement the political mutual trust. As an important member of ASEAN, the Chinese president praised Brunei's role in promoting the development of China-ASEAN relations, and said China is willing to work with all parties involved in the South China Sea, to build peace and friendship in the region. Both leaders agreed to expand cooperation under the China-proposed Belt and Road initiative. Hassanal also said Brunei would continue to uphold the One-China Policy, and welcomed more Chinese investment in Brunei.
