A total of 72 tourists from three Chinese tour groups were in the hot air balloons that were forced to make crash landings in Cappadocia, Turkey, on Tuesday, the Chinese embassy in the country has confirmed.
As of Wednesday evening local time, nine of the tourists were in local hospitals under treatment or observation. The embassy has helped another one rearrange his travel booking to leave Cappadocia as he preferred to come back to China for treatment.
On Tuesday, three hot air balloons made bumpy emergency landings in bad weather, injuring 49 tourists including 23 Chinese in the popular eastern tourist region of Cappadocia.
The Chinese embassy in Turkey has asked the hot balloon company to pay the treatment costs of the injured Chinese passengers.
The Chinese passengers who were not seriously injured have left Cappadocia to either continue their holidays or return to China early.
The embassy has warned tourists not to take hot air balloon trips in bad weather as such accidents have occurred occasionally in the region.
Last month, a Danish tourist was killed in Cappadocia when a hot-air balloon made a similar hard landing.
