Chinese Super League: Evergrande host Guizhou tonight

While other teams are vying for spots in next year's AFC Champions League, CSL leaders Guangzhou Evergrande are looking to continue their stranglehold on China's top flight. A win at home tonight over lowly Guizhou Zhicheng would see Evergrande become the first team to win the domestic title a ridiculous seven times in a row. Natasha Hossein has more.

Guizhou's goal this season was simply to stay in the Chinese Super League, a task they have completed. Zhicheng are coming off two consecutive losses, and will have their work cut out for them to break that drought at Tianhe Stadium.

MARIO SUAREZ MATA GUIZHOU MIDFIELDER "We'll use more than one hundred percent effort to fight against Guangzhou Evergrande, and we'll make sure to make as few mistakes as possible. We do hope that Evergrande win the title, but not tonight, next week or the week after instead. "

In 2014, Guizhou's coach Gregorio Manzano led Beijing Guoan to victory over Guangzhou to delay their run to the title. The 61-year-old Spaniard has yet to renew his contract with Guizhou, and a win tonight would help him prove his worth to the club.

GREGORIO MANZANO GUIZHOU COACH "Three years ago I led Guoan to beat Guangzhou Evergrande, but Guangzhou finally won the title after beating Shandong in the last round. All we can do is just pospone when they will claim the title."

As for Guangzhou, the team didn't practise at Tianhe stadium as usual, but beating Guizhou and claiming their seventh title is a mission the whole team are hoping to accomplish tonight.

XU XIN EVERGRANDE MIDFILEDER "It's the end of the season, and what should come, will come eventually. We have been fighting hard the whole season, and this game will decide whether we claim the title with two rounds left, so our whole team will try our best to win the game."

As for other matches, Changchun Yatai will host Jiangsu Suning, second-placed SIPG will entertain Guangzhou R&F, Chongqing Lifan will take on Shanghai Shenhua, while Beijing Guoan will be on road to face Tianjin Teda. CGTN
