Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says China and the US should stick to the principles of non-confrontation, mutual respect and get out of a "zero-sum mentality" so relations can develop steadily and positively.
His remarks follow a phone call President Xi Jinping made with US President Donald Trump last month, in which Trump promised the US will abide by the One China policy and principles of the three China-US joint communiques.
This year marks the 39th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic ties between China and the US, and the two countries shared broad common interest. Only if the two countries work together and rise above the old ideas, can the two sides open up new horizons, said Wang.
Wang made the remarks at a press conference today on the sidelines of the Two Sessions meetings in Beijing.
