Gulangyu Island situated on the estuary of the Jiulong River facing Xiamen City in eastern China's Fujian Province is famous for its unique architecture and pedestrian-only policy. The island was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list, making China atop the list with 52 sites. The decision was made at the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee on Saturday.
