WPBSA Masters: Allen thrashes O'Sullivan 6-1
[]
In snooker, Ronnie O'Sullivan was aiming to stay on course for an eight title and third in a row at the Masters when he took on Northern Irishman Mark Allen in the last eight yesterday. The man known as rocket dished out a heavy beating to Marco Fu in the previous round, 6-nil. But despite the big win, in which Fu didn't pot a ball for the first four frames, it would be the 42-year-old's turn to leave the Alexandra Palace in London outclassed. O'Sullivan wrapped up that victory in 80 minutes and starts well here with a break of 75.
But after winning the opener he struggles to find any rhythm and some bad positioning play.
A soft miss on an easy black sums up the five-time world champions's next three frames where he registers just one point.
Allen, on the other hand, is in free scoring mode and scores the highest break in the third with 135, storming into a 3-1 lead.  After the break, the pair return to the table sharing a smile. But there's nothing funny about O'Sullivan continued complacency. More errors, this time on the red.
His 31-year-old opponent dominates the sixth to extend his advantage and despite O'Sullivan leading 35-1 in the seventh frame, Allen fights back to win 6-1 and reach the semi-finals.
Also in action is 2017 world games winner Kyren Wilson. The 26-year-old is considered one of England's brightest young talents and he demonstrates this with a 6-1 win over Mark Williams to also advance to the last four.
