Visitors to Kazakhstan's Lake Kaindy can see trees poking from the water’s surface like misplaced toothpicks. The lake is about 400m long and 30m deep and is located 129 km from Almaty city. Trees have remained intact for decades despite sinking in water after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the area in 1911. Unique conditions have kept the sunken forest from deteriorating.
