China will upgrade its existing highway network to facilitate access to red tourism sites across the country. The red tourism sites refer to locations with historical significance to the Chinese Communism. The Transportation Ministry said on Monday that it plans to build 24-hundred kilometers of highway over the next four years. The plan aims to provide safer, and more convenient access to China's historical communism sites. The plan involves 126 sites in 28 provinces with a total investment of 23 billion yuan. The Transportation Ministry says existing highway networks around the sites are outdated and can't accommodate the demands of an increasing number of tourists.
