China, Norway ‘break ice’ to enhance mutual trust

Chinese President Xi Jinping met visiting Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg in Beijing on Monday to cement political mutual trust.
"We believe the relationship and practical cooperation will embrace broad prospects, as long as China and Norway follow the principle of mutual respect and equal treatment, while respecting and accommodating each other's core interests and concerns," Xi noted.

Xi encouraged the two sides to enhance high-level contact, people-to-people exchanges and coordinate on major global and regional issues. He also called for deepening cooperation in winter sports and arctic scientific research.
The president highlighted Norway’s positive response to the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and mentioned the fact that the Nordic country is a founding member of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Prime Minister Solberg expressed her country’s support for the Belt and Road Initiative. She expressed hope that the two countries would strengthen high-level exchanges and cooperate in Arctic affairs. The prime minister said her country is committed to the one-China policy.
