The Honor Guard of the Three Services of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) celebrated its 71st anniversary this year on March 4. In 1946, the ceremonial unit was formed in Yan’an city, northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, to welcome the visit of General George Marshall, the special envoy of US President Truman.
For all these years, the Honor Guard has undertaken numerous state-level ceremonial tasks, including the welcome of President Richard Nixon, the first US president to visit China, in 1972 and the first raising of China’s national flag in Hong Kong in 1997 and Macao in 1999.
