Chinese President Xi Jinping sent congratulations to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, as the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the regional institution.

"On behalf of the Chinese government and people, and myself, I congratulate you and other ASEAN members on the organization's 50th anniversary," Xi said in a letter addressing to Duterte.

Xi applauded ASEAN's efforts in keeping regional peace and stability and in bringing prosperity to people in ASEAN member states.

Xi said China is committed to improving the political trust and cooperation between China and ASEAN members.

2018 marks the 15th anniversary of China-ASEAN strategic partnership and China will take advantage of this opportunity to create a community of shared future for mankind, Xi added.
