Sports Scene returns with some tennis news, which is something that will take Andy Murray longer than he had hoped after the Scot missed half of last season with a persistent hip injury that has also caused him to pull out of the Australian Open.
On Monday the three-time grand slam champion underwent hip surgery in Australia and is optimistic about the results of the procedure. Murray released a statement yesterday saying, "Today I underwent successful right hip surgery at the St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne." The Briton has not played a competitive match for six months and after ending 2016 as world number one, has slipped down to 19th in the rankings. His hip problem became apparent at Wimbledon last year when he limped while being beaten by American Sam Querrey in the quarter-finals of the grasscourt tournament. The 30-year-old attempted to return at the US Open in August, but was forced to withdraw two days before the start of the tournament. The two time Olympic champion is determined to return to action in time for this year's Wimbledon in early July.
