China is now the second top source of Asian tourists to Peru, its Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Eduardo Ferreyros said on Wednesday.
He believes that Asian tourists will increasingly visit Peru in the future, based on analysis of visitor statistics. Japan tops the list of Asian visitors to the South American country.
Ferreyros believes the increase in Chinese visitors is due to intense campaigns that Peruvian authorities have been carrying out in Chinese cities to attract more visitors.

Peru has also eliminated visa requirements for Chinese citizens who already possess visas for the US, the Schengen Zone, the UK and Australia.
According to Ferreyros, the government of President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski has been working hard to drive Chinese tourism in Peru.
He noted that Peru was named "Best Tourism Destination in the Americas" at the Shanghai World Travel Fair 2017 in April.
According to official tourism ministry projections, Peru will receive around 35,000 Chinese tourists in 2017.
