Sweet Inspirations: Uganda cake fair celebrates confectionery genius
[]
And finally, having your cake and eating it too. The Ugandan sweet tooth is getting sated--at the yearly Kampala cake fair. It's a showcase of the country's most creative confectionery makers. Leon Ssenyange has that story.
The yummiest trend in town. Cakes, cupcakes, cookies and even sweets. The Kampala's cake fair was an opportunity for bakers to display their works. For Priscilla Mugerwa, every cake in her stall, she has personally baked.
PRISCILLA MUGERWA CILLA'S OVEN "Every day is a new experience when making cakes. Everyone comes with their own specifications. So that makes it interesting. You don't really get bored."
The cakes were in all shapes, sizes and even characters. It is art in the cake that makes it enjoyable at least according to Kimbugwe Matovu.
KIMBUGWE MATOVU SAM'S CAKE GALLERY "Baking is artistry you put it your passion. Your love and you pull it off. The motivator is the client's happiness and satisfaction."
LEON SSENYANGE KAMPALA, UGANDA "Cake lovers are spoilt for choice here. This is the chocolate mint.It nicely melts in the mouth and seems to be everyone's favourite."
A bite here and a bite there almost every cake was there for the eating.
VIVIAN, REVELLER "They are really nice. I have had a lot of cake, almost every table has a different flavour."
PATRICIA NAMAKULA, REVELLER "On this table. I have tried the tangerine cake. It was my favorite on the other table it was the chocolate cake.so really am enjoying."
Visitors admired the intricate work. Organisers say more people are now beginning to explore their confectionery tastes.
ASHA BATENDA CAKE FAIR ORGANIZER "Ugandans before did not understand cake. But the trend is changing. The trend is so epic. I see work and I am mesmerized."
The fair is only in it first showing and sweet strides seem to have already been made. But satisfying the sweet tooth craving could take more than just a bite. LS CGTN, Kampala, Uganda.
