Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the Kazakh capital Astana on Wednesday for a four-day state visit to the central Asian nation.

During his visit, Xi will attend the 17th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the opening ceremony of Astana Expo 2017.

President Xi said the two countries have strengthened political trust and promoted bilateral cooperation in various fields since they established diplomatic relations 25 years ago.

He also noted that he looks forward to meeting his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev to boost bilateral ties.

Xi also said he will exchange views with all parties at the SCO summit on major issues of common concern in order to promote cooperation for the development of the organization.

President Xi's third visit to Kazakhstan comes after meeting Nazarbayev in Beijing in May on the sidelines of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
