And to the ongoing United Nations General Assembly. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to speak shortly in New York. Leading up to the speech, Wang has met with his ROK counterpart, Kang Kyung-wha, on the sidelines of the meetings.

Wang asked the ROK to face China's "rightful concern" over the deployment of THAAD and "remove the obstacle that's in the way of developing bilateral relations". Kang said that the ROK is willing to step up communication with China to properly solve the THAAD issue and resume "vitality and dynamics" between the two countries.

The two also talked about tensions on the Korean Peninsula; with Wang reiterating China's long-held stance that denuclearization is the goal on the peninsula, no matter how long, or how much effort it will take.
